         What Do You Receive With Your Slide or Negative Scanning

  • All slides & negatives are cleaned with compressed air & brush dusted before scanning to remove loose dust and hairs. Please note a lot of marks are actually cracks, mould, scratches and damage to the emulsion (think of cracked paint) and are not removed by brushing. However our “Digital Ice” blemish removal does an excellent job at minimising these marks
     
  • We scan at an incredibly high 3000 PPI !! that is the more than an 10 Megapixel digital camera image. We scan at this high rate to give you best detail and the ability to zoom in and crop your image. So many other companies scan at tiny dpi rates which mean you are loosing valuable information and cannot zoom in. With the HD Television becoming popular these high PPI rates are a must if you want to view your images on the large screen.  If your going to all this trouble to get it done, lets do it right!
     
  • We supply your images in High quality “JPEG” format identical to modern digital cameras. You can also have them supplied in uncompressed “TIFF” format for an additional 5 cents per slide. Just remember “Tiff” files are very large about 30mb per slide and are require a fast computer to view smoothly.
     
  • We number your image files sequentially PIC_001.jpg  PIC_002.jpg etc. By default we do not make folders or allow special naming methods. If you require this optional extra please discuss it with us BEFORE scanning commences
     
  • We label your containers of slides with the start and end slide they hold eg PIC_025 to PIC_068. This allows you to find a specific slide as many paper mount slides having writing on them describing where they were taken. With negatives it varies depending on how they are supplied.
     
  • We run our scanning software in manual. We do not allow the scanning software decide on colour balance or brightness etc. Instead a trained operator visually checks each slide and adjusts the following using Adobe Photoshop.
     

      • # Cropping the slide or negative intelligently (trims the edges of the image) to ensure heads aren’t chopped off etc

      # Correct orientation (portrait or landscape) and ensuring wherever possible
      The slide is not backwards eg street names numbers names etc are not backwards

      # Brightness and contrast adjusted to bring out detail in dark/washed out areas and to optimise for peoples faces

      # Neutralise blacks and Whites and remove colour castes (usually purple) where possible. see below

      # Image sharpening where required to make the picture crisp

      # Removal of scratches, marks and blemishes where possible. See below

All this for only 90 cents per slide.  This is amazing value !!!

  • Colour restoration: We always remove minor colour castes and in a lot of cases even images that have gone purple can have a lot of the real colour restored. We however do not guarantee it on every slide /Negative / Photo as this is the most time consuming part of the process.
     
  • Marks & Blemishes: These are most visible on single colour backgrounds such as blue sky and clouds. Our Digital ice blemish removal software does an excellent job at removing marks etc but its not perfect. Removing blemishes from the face/arms of people or detailed objects which remain after “Digital Ice” is a complex art and is not included in our standard slide transfer. Chemical slide cleaning can help but is not included if you have particular slides you want restored ring us to discuss your needs.


      • Fair Go Restoration Policy: For slide / Negative / Photo  collections with major colour castes or large or numerous blemishes we work on a “fair go” principle. So if only small percentage of your images are discoloured, scratched or have blemishes, we will do our best to restore them all. However if a large percentage are like this, we need to spread our available time amongst them all and may only partially restore them.

      Normally we will NOT call you if the above situation occurs as we have found the vast majority of people do not want to pay any extra as most don’t even know what is on the slides.
      You can however specifically request us to call you to discuss further restoration options if required at the time we receive your slides.
       

  • We burn your images using only Verbatim & Taiyo Yuden CD/DVD  disks at a slow burn speed to ensure long term reliability
